Sprawling 20 acres, the Langkawi Crocodile Farm is specially designed and landscaped with beautiful plantation and greenery, making it looks like a recreation park. Different species of crocodiles are being kept in specific ponds, where visitors can have a thorough look at the crocodiles while walking around.

Nearly 1,000 crocodiles are being showcased in different ponds - which consist of the Periodical Pond, the Breeding Pond, the Bridge Pond, the Feeding Pond, the Jumping Pond and the Show Pond. The first section you will see once entering the crocodile farm is the Periodical Pond. Here, crocodiles are being segregated according to their age. Thus, you will get to see crocodiles of different ages and sizes. Most of the crocodiles in this section are inactive, where many of them are lying around, soaking in the small pond or even sleeping with their mouths wide open.

The Bridge Pond is the largest section with lots of huge and active crocodiles. A bridge is built across the huge pond where visitors can get a closer look at the crocodiles from top. Standing on the wooden bridge, you will feel somewhat scary and exciting as those gigantic and sharp-teethed creatures staring at you. Sometimes, you might even see them fighting with each other. Thus, for your own safety, it is advisable not to lean closely against the fence and always take cautious step while walking on the bridge because the crocodiles are merely 5 feet underneath the wooden bridge.

Crocodile Shows
The major attractions in Langkawi Crocodile Farm are the feeding show and stunt show scheduled at different timeslots. There will be a feeding show at the Bridge Pond, around 11.00am. The trained personnel of the crocodile farm will be go into the pond with a bucket of fishes on his hand. Blowing his whistle, all the huge crocodiles will move to his direction, waiting to be fed. This will be a very exciting show as seeing the farm personnel feeds the crocodiles in a close distance.
Besides, there will also be an exciting wrestling show between a man and the crocodile. You will be stunned by all the dangerous stunts done by the man. This wrestling show will be held at the Show Pond, at 2.45 pm. Thus, if you do not wish to miss all the exciting show, plan your time wisely while visiting the Langkawi Crocodile Farm.

Next, the “Bujang Kawi” is one of the not-to-be-missed attractions in Langkawi Crocodile Farm. It is a crocodile of the Porosus species, the largest species in the world. However, this 20-year-old crocodile is handicapped where he was born with an abnormal jaw without teeth. Due to this abnormality, he needs extensive care and the personnel in the farm will have to take care of him like a baby.

Though weighted more that 1,000 pounds, “Bujang Kawi” does not act as aggressively as other crocodiles. He is being kept in an individual area, adjacent to the bridge pond. Thus, while visiting the crocodile farm, pay a visit to the one-and-only “Bujang Kawi” and you will get to know more about him from the profile provided in front of his pond.

Remember to look out for the 20-year-old toothless Bujang Kawi of Porosus species.

Feeding show is usually on at 11:00am

Coming out from the Langkawi Crocodile Farm, you will see the Porosus Shop that sells luxurious and upscale genuine crocodile leather goods. Prices for the leather goods range from RM 120 for a keychain to approximately RM 40, 000 for a ladies handbag. Other than all the pricy leather goods, you can also find some small souvenirs, such as postcard, keychain and T-shirts.

Opening daily from 10 am to 6 pm, the entrance fee to Langkawi Crocodile Farm is RM 15 for adult(for local visitors with Malaysian ID) and RM 10 for child.
Non-citizen visitors will pay RM20 for adult and RM15 for child.
There will be an additional surcharge of RM 1 for bringing in camera.
The Langkawi Crocodile Farm is located at Teluk Datai, approximately 30 km away from Kuah Town. For those staying in Pantai Kok and Pantai Cenang, use the Pantai Kok Road and head to the Teluk Yu Road. Turn left into the Teluk Datai Road and you will be able to see a crocodile signboard after the Natural History Tours. Local travel agent such as Esteem Lane Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd and Langkawi Discovery Sdn Bhd do organize certain round island day tour where they will bring you to some places of interest in Langkawi.


At Kuah, you will realize that duty free shops are ubiquitous – almost everywhere along the street and it is indeed what makes the town attractive. Due to the act of waiving tax by the government, merchandises such as liquor, tobacco, chocolates and some imported kitchenware here are much cheaper than any other places. It is also a perfect place to grab some souvenirs for friends.


Mostly, the duty free shops are located adjacent to each other. There are about 3 duty free shops located at the Jalan Pandak Mayah 5, Kuah Town. They are the Coco Valley Duty Free Supermarket, Zeno Duty Free Shopping Centre and the Onestop Duty free.


Thus, take your time to check through the prices of merchandises in each store before making any purchase. Though products selling in these shops are similar – mostly liquor, chocolates, tobacco and some fast moving consumer goods, there might be differences in prices in each store.

If you plan to purchase liquor, browse through all the adjacent shops and make comparisons. Try not to make your purchase decision in a hurry because there are always some shops that offer lower prices. Prices for hard liquor such as gin, vodka or Bacardi vary from RM 5 to RM 10. Same thing goes to chocolates as some store might have purchase-with-purchase or discount promotion for certain chocolates and might carry more variety of chocolates than others.
Besides, it is also worthwhile to shop at the largest and modern shopping malls in Kuah Town – the Langkawi Parade Megamall located at Pokok Asam, Jalan Kelibang (near to the Grand Continental Hotel) and the Langkawi Fair Shopping Mall at Jalan Persiaran, adjacent to the jetty. These are the places where you can get more renowned brand such as Nike and Levi’s.

However, do bear in mind that if you would like to purchase anything at the duty free shops, you must stay in Langkawi for at least 2 days (or being able to prove so). Before leaving the island with packets of duty free products, customs officers in the airport or jetty might request you to show official documents such as boarding pass, passport or receipts to prove that you have been staying in the island for more that 2 days. Besides, there are some limitations in liquor and tobacco where one visitor is only entitle to purchase one box of cigarette and one bottle of liquor (liquor must be hand-carried).

MAHSURI MAUSOLEUM (MAKAM MAHSURI) - LANGKAWI

Mahsuri was a young woman who lived in Langkawi, Malaysia either during the 14th or 19th century. According to folklore, she was accused of adultery and executed by stabbing. Her tomb, Makam Mahsuri, has become a tourist attraction on the island.Mahsuri was the daughter of a Thai couple who moved from their native Phuket to the island of Langkawi in search of a better life. 

She was the most beautiful in all of Langkawi and married the warrior Wan Darus. As was required of him, her husband had to go to war, leaving Mahsuri behind to fend for herself. It was during this time that Mahsuri befriended a young man named Deraman. The village chief's wife was jealous of Mahsuri's beauty. She spread a rumour that Mahsuri was unfaithful and was having an affair with Deraman in the absence of Wan Darus. Eventually the rumours grew strong enough that the villagers openly accused her of adultery. Mahsuri pleaded her innocence, but no one believed her.

Mahsuri was to be tied to a tree (or pole) and stabbed to death but it didn't work. After every execution attempt failed, Mahsuri told them to kill her with her family's kris. When she was stabbed, white blood flowed from the wound, signifying her innocence. Some birds flew above her to cover her body. With her dying breath, Mahsuri cursed Langkawi to have seven generations of bad luck. The kingdom was soon taken over by Siam. The villagers at Padang Mat Sirat burned their own paddy fields rather than let them fall into the hands of the Siamese.

The Oriental Village in the upper northwest of Langkawi Island, near Pantai Kok, is the entrance for the cable-car ride, which takes visitors all the way up to Mount Mat Cincang, Langkawi’s second highest peak. Entering the village and passing through the pleasant oriental garden and souvenir shops, visitors make their payment at a counter before stepping onto an escalator which brings them to the cable-car pedestal.

Once in, the cable-car ascends; you’ll begin to notice the temperature dropping and a windy breeze begin flowing into the cabin through ventilation slits at the top. As it gets cooler, the landscape below begins to appear smaller, and at after climbing at a 42° angle for a few hundred feet, you can start snapping pictures of the rainforest below. Look out at the side for a view of the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, which cascades down a grey rock face.

After around 600 metres, the cable car reaches the first station, where you disembark to either; take another cable car up to the peak, or lull around the observatory deck and admire the magnificent surroundings. Most will not spend too long here, as the view from the peak is even more amazing. After a short queue, you can grab another cable car and ride up another wire cable which doesn’t rise too sharply, though the initial jolt of the car leaving the second station can feel quite unnerving.

As the car settles to a decent speed after the brief spurt from the station, passengers will be treated to an even higher view of the rainforest and hills below. The car here is at its coolest and in too short a time, you’ll reach the final station which is where most of the excitement is. Passengers leaving the cab will be greeted by a menagerie of stalls selling souvenirs, toys, snacks and drinks.

You’ll want to climb a set of staircases that cuts through a thin forest to reach the observatory deck above. Once on the top, you can finally enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding horizon; the island’s landscape, skyline and seas beyond. At the side is a steel bridge suspended across Mount Mat Cincang and a neighbouring mountain. Walking across this bridge is a fantastic experience and offers a different viewpoint of the island and sea towards the north.

After immersing yourself in the views, it’ll be time to go, and the entire process of cable-car ascent is repeated in a descending route. Along the way, you can pick up some souvenirs at the final or base station before carrying your adventures elsewhere in the magnificent island of Langkawi.

Laman Padi

At the northern end of Pantai Cenang – opposite the Casa del Mar hotel – is Laman Padi; you can watch buffaloes grazing in the paddy field from the bridge at the entrance. As you walk through the compound you can read about the stages of Padi Cultivation; this ‘ecotourism’ complex also encompasses the Padi Cuisine and Café, the Nawa Sari Spa and the Heritage Gallery.

Rice Garden Museum

This museum is dedicated to rice cultivation and comprises a Heritage Gallery – which displays the sequence of activities pertaining to rice planting – a Paddy Gallery – which has breathtaking views of a multi-tiered rooftop rice garden, a Herb Garden and a Garden of Variety where you can actually try your hand at rice farming.

Underwater World
Underwater World

Underwater World – Malaysia’s largest aquarium – features 200 different species of marine and freshwater creatures.
